At By Our Hands School of Craft, we believe that learning a craft is more than acquiring a skill—it is an invitation to slow down, observe, create, and connect. Through woodworking, sculpture, drawing, ceramics, fiber arts, and other traditional crafts, we cultivate curiosity, creativity, and confidence in makers of all ages.
Whether you are picking up a tool for the first time, seeking to deepen an existing practice, or looking for enriching creative experiences for your family, you will find a welcoming community where craftsmanship, imagination, and lifelong learning are celebrated.

Class Offerings
Woodshop 101
Grades 3–12 | 6-Week Course
Discover the satisfaction of making something with your own hands. This six-week Introduction to Woodshop course invites homeschool students to explore the timeless craft of woodworking in a safe, creative, and encouraging environment.
Through a series of engaging, hands-on projects, students will learn foundational woodworking skills including measuring, marking, sawing, shaping, sanding, drilling, assembly, and finishing techniques. Along the way, they will gain confidence using age-appropriate hand tools while developing patience, problem-solving abilities, spatial reasoning, and fine motor skills.
Each student will complete several artistic and functional woodworking projects that reflect both guided instruction and their own creativity. Emphasis is placed on craftsmanship, safe tool use, thoughtful design, and the joy of creating with natural materials.
No prior woodworking experience is required. All materials and tools are provided, and students take home every project they create.
This course is designed for homeschool learners in grades 3–12, with instruction adapted to each student's age, experience, and skill level.
Private Woodshop & Sculpture Instruction
Grades 3–12 | One-on-One Lessons
Explore the creative world of woodworking and sculpture through personalized, one-on-one instruction designed to inspire curiosity, craftsmanship, and artistic confidence. These private lessons offer homeschool students a flexible learning experience tailored to their interests, experience, and creative goals.
Each lesson is customized to the individual student, allowing beginners to build a strong foundation while providing more experienced learners with opportunities to refine techniques and pursue increasingly challenging projects. Students may choose to focus on woodworking, sculpture, or a combination of both disciplines throughout their instruction.
Woodworking lessons introduce students to measuring, marking, sawing, shaping, sanding, drilling, assembly, joinery, and finishing while emphasizing safe and responsible tool use. Sculpture lessons explore a variety of materials—including clay, wood, wire, cardboard, found objects, and mixed media—while teaching the principles of form, texture, balance, proportion, and composition.
Whether crafting functional objects, carving wood, building sculptures, or creating imaginative mixed-media artworks, students are encouraged to think creatively, solve problems, and develop patience, confidence, and an appreciation for making by hand. Individual instruction allows each lesson to progress at a pace that supports the student's growth while encouraging exploration, technical skill, and personal expression.
All tools and materials are provided, and students take home every completed project. Private instruction is an excellent option for homeschool families seeking a personalized, hands-on arts education that nurtures creativity, craftsmanship, and a lifelong love of making.
Sculpture 101
Grades 3–12 | 6-Week Course
Explore the exciting world of three-dimensional art through hands-on sculpting projects that encourage creativity, observation, and craftsmanship. This six-week Introduction to Sculpture course invites homeschool students to discover how artists transform everyday materials into expressive works of art.
Students will experiment with a variety of sculptural materials and techniques, including clay, wire, cardboard, wood, found objects, and mixed media. Along the way, they will learn the fundamentals of form, balance, texture, proportion, construction, and composition while developing problem-solving skills, spatial awareness, and creative confidence.
Each class combines demonstrations with guided studio time, allowing students to explore new techniques while creating original sculptures that reflect their own ideas and artistic voice. Emphasis is placed on thoughtful craftsmanship, creative exploration, and learning to see the world as a sculptor.
No prior art experience is required. All materials are provided, and students will take home the sculptures they create throughout the course.

Large Scale Painting // Nature Themes
This multi-week painting course invites students in grades 3–12 to explore the natural world through large-scale collaborative artwork. Working together, students will transform smaller images and ideas into expansive paintings while learning the fundamentals of composition, color mixing, paint application, and large-scale image transfer.
Students will experiment with a variety of painting techniques and tools, learning how different approaches to brushwork, layering, texture, and color can bring an image to life. Nature-inspired themes will provide a starting point for exploration, encouraging students to observe and interpret plants, animals, landscapes, and other elements of the natural world.
At the heart of the course is collaboration. Students will share ideas, contribute to a collective vision, and work together to create paintings that are larger and more ambitious than what they might create individually. The course emphasizes creative problem-solving, communication, craftsmanship, and the experience of making art as a community.
